Last week’s story, “One Lost Home,” followed a new line of research about Salomon and Clara Hirschland in The Hague.
The story also rests beside older work preserved and shared by Victoria over many years. These sources remain important starting points:
- Daniel Kester’s Hirschland Family Tree follows many branches of the family. It also explains where early connections are uncertain.
- Die Familie Hirschland is a family tree last updated in the 1930s.
- Hermann Schröter’s history places the Hirschlands in the civic, business, and cultural life of Essen. The site also includes an expanded translation.
These sources do not always agree. Spellings, dates, places, and family relationships can differ, and some of the earliest connections are uncertain. We will say so openly and update the history when stronger records become available.
These older sources are not the final word. They are the foundation of a family history still being pieced together. We are grateful to Victoria for preserving them.
